Questions to Ask When Considering Semi-permanent Makeup treatments

If you are one of those people who are always up-to-date about the latest beauty trends, you must have been following all the semi-permanent makeup treatments. Long gone are the days when people felt hesitation before admitting that they got some work done on their face. In the recent times, people like to flaunt their on-fleek eyebrows, long, fluttering lashes and luscious lips. With the popularity of semi-permanent makeup treatments, people gain their confidence back and feel empowered. While you can choose to get any treatment you want, it is important to have some information about the procedures. Therefore, you should know which questions to ask when considering semi-permanent makeup treatments. At the same time, it will help choosing the right artist.

In order to help you make the right decision, we talked to Pakistan’s leading semi-permanent makeup artist, Amina Hyatt Lak.

Earlier this year, Lak launched one of a kind studio, BrowBar. It is among the very few studios for semi-permanent makeup in Karachi. Along with some of the most popular treatments, Lak has become the first artist ever to bring semi-permanent treatments to Pakistan. During the interview, Lak shared some of her expertise and answered our questions to help you choose the right artist, treatment and satisfy your concerns.

Following are the questions to ask when considering semi-permanent makeup treatments:

What is semi-permanent makeup?

It is a technique where pigment is inserted in the skin to enhance your features like eyebrows, lips, eyelashes etc. However, it fades away after a certain period of time and gives you a chance to change your look. At the same time, semi-permanent makeup can restore a person’s self-confidence and help them deal with issues like alopecia, hair loss because of chemotherapy, cover up the scars, or vitiligo.

How to choose the right artist?

While there are quite a few artists in Pakistan, you should know the difference between a good, professional one and a non-professional artist. First thing you need to check is if they are certified or not. When visiting the studio, you can ask to see their certificate and inquire about their training. If the artist is professional and experienced, they would not be offended. At the same time, their experience should speak for itself. In order to get a better picture of their experience and client diaries, you need to keep a check of their social media presence. In today’s age, social media is a great tool to interact and find information. While talking about her studio, Amina Hyatt Lak said:

“We at BrowBar have a policy to keep our social media accounts up-to-date and post snippets of all procedures on a daily basis. This way, people get an insight and contact us for appointment easily.”

Should there be a consultation before the procedure?

Absolutely. While most of the semi-permanent makeup artists book a consultation, you should make sure to ask if they don’t. The consultation is for both the client and the artist to discuss the details. During this meeting, you should tell them all your concerns, your vision as well as discuss the procedure itself. Similarly, the artist would want to know your health history, share their ideas and give their suggestions. It gives you both to get familiarized with each other.

What kind of hygiene measures are taken before and during the procedures?

Cleanliness and hygiene are the key points when considering semi-permanent makeup treatments. Because the equipment and tools are going to be used mostly on your face, it is extremely important that the studio takes extraordinary measures. When talking about what kind of hygiene measures are taken at her studio, Lak said:

“That is why BrowBar staff is trained to regularly sterilize the equipment. At the same time, we use disposable needles and blades. We make sure to open the packet in front of the client. Using disposable and sterilized equipment minimizes the chances of infections. Similarly, we only use organic pigments made from natural ingredients. These pigments are specifically designed for semi-permanent treatments.”

Are semi-permanent makeup treatments painful?

Most of the treatments are completely pain-free. Before any procedure, topical anesthesia is applied to further minimize the pain. After that, you will not feel any kind of pain or discomfort. Before going for the procedure, discuss this with the artist.

Are there going to be any side effects of the treatments?

This is another important question which depends on your choice of the artist. If you go to a professional, experience and certified artist, you will be able to avoid any chances of getting side effects, infections or allergies. However, in the worst case scenario, visit a doctor as soon as possible.

What is the healing time of semi-permanent treatments?

Although most of the treatments heal instantly, there are certain procedure which take time. Having said that, the longest healing time is 4 to 6 weeks for treatments like microblading. Apart from that, the treated area will heal right after the procedure.
