Aftercare of Microblading

Long gone are the days when women had to resort to cheap beauty creams and untrained beauticians to look flawless. However, the times have changed and so has beauty trends. You no longer have to walk on a dangerous path to reach your beauty goals. Since few years, the beauty gurus and experts have introduced countless treatments which are safe and reliable. From glowing skin to luscious lashes, you can get it all! In order to get flawless eyebrows, thousands of women choose microblading which is a fail-safe and trustworthy treatment. However, it is important to have enough information about the aftercare of microblading.

Unlike eyebrow tattooing, microblading is semi-permanent and lasts for at least 2 years. Similarly, an organic pigment is used instead of the ink. Because the pigment is mostly made from natural ingredients, it is safe to use on the skin. Having said that, it is also important to choose the right person to get this treatment done. In order to avoid any kinds of injuries, pain or mishaps during microblading, it is essential to choose a professional expert.

Here are all the questions that you have about the aftercare of microblading, answered by the founder of Brow Bar herself:

Q: How should the client prepare their skin before coming for microblading?

A: Before coming for microblading, your skin should be a clean slate. Therefore, we at Brow Bar advise that the client should not be wearing any makeup, skincare products, any anti-aging/acne creams, or serums containing acids or chemicals. Similarly, the client should stop using chemical peels prior to the treatment. They should avoid excessive sweating a day before the procedure. It is also important that the client inform us about any other treatment like Botox beforehand. They are advised to not get other treatments done 3 weeks prior to microblading. Additionally, the client should stop taking medications like aspirin, niacin, vitamin E, fish oil, CoQ10 and ibuprofen 24 hours before coming to us.

Q: What would the area around microbladed eyebrows look like right after it?

A: Right after the microblading, the eyebrows and area around it will feel slightly swollen, tender and a bit sensitive. However, there is no need to panic. The swelling and sensitivity goes away on its own. Initially, your eyebrows will seem more dense and darker in color. However, they will start fading and blending into your original eyebrows within a few weeks.

Q: How long would the healing process take?

A: The average healing period takes up to 4 to 6 weeks. If everything goes smoothly, we at Brow Bar ask our clients to schedule a touchup meeting. However, if they think the healing process is not going as expected, they are advised to contact us immediately.

Q: What precautions should the client take after microblading?

A: After two hours of microblading, Brow Bar clients are told to clean their eyebrows with cotton swab dipped in mineral water. The next day, they should apply a thin layer of Vaseline or coconut oil twice a day. If they have oily skin, only once a day is more than enough. This will also help in cleaning away the excess pigment on your skin. Additionally, they are given a set of instructions to follow up until the touchup meeting. The clients are advised to avoid wearing makeup, skincare products, chemical peels or getting any other treatments until the touchups. While washing their face, they should not rub the eyebrows and also should not use any kind of abrasive washcloth or sponge. The eyebrows area should be cleaned with sterile water. They should make sure that their hands are clean as well. After that, let the eyebrows air dry completely. Then apply the right amount of aftercare ointment either with a cotton swab or clean hands.

Q: What to do if the client experiences an itching, scabs or rashes?

A: During the microblading healing process, the eyebrows area might feel a little itchy and scabs can form. However, there is nothing to be scared of. This is also a part of healing process. The most important thing that we tell our Brow Bar clients is to not pick on the scabs or rub the eyebrows vigorously. If they do, it may cause them to lose color of the eyebrows or damage skin. It can also leave a permanent scar. It is important to keep the brow area clean as well as the right amount of ointment is applied. Therefore, it is important to religiously follow the aftercare instructions.

Q: What kind of ointments should be applied and for how long?

A: Even before applying the ointment, we at Brow Bar advise our clients to keep their eyebrows clean and let them air dry. This is the first and foremost step. After that, they are advised to use anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and antiseptic ointment, Fucidin. This will form a protective seal on the skin and prevent any kind of infection. The ointment should be applied for the first 5 days, twice a day. After that, it should be used only at night to keep the eyebrows moisturized.

Q: What activities should the client avoid during the healing process?

A: The clients should avoid any kind of water activities like swimming. They should avoid hot baths, saunas, or Jacuzzi. It is advised to stay away from sun as much as possible in the initial days. Similarly, sweating should also be avoided. Therefore, they should avoid aerobics, zumba, dancing, weight lifting or practicing any sports for ten days. At the same time, the clients should avoid any household activities or cleaning where there is a lot of dust or airborne debris. They should also avoid travelling in open air vehicles like convertibles, boats, bicycles or motorcycles.

Q: What other complications can be expected and what to do if they occur?

A: Our clients at Brow Bar have hardly ever complained of any extreme complications. The reason behind it is the extraordinary measures we take with cleanliness and safety. All of our equipment is regularly sterilized and cleaned. At the same time, some parts of the equipment are for one-time use only. Therefore, we make sure to unpack brand new equipment right in front of our clients. This is the main reason that our clients have never had any issues after microblading. Before starting the process, we have a thorough consultation with the client. During the consultation, we make sure to collect their medical history about skin allergies, any recent surgeries. If they have diabetes or are using medications for serious illnesses, we advise them to not get the procedure done.

Q: What does the touchup meeting look like?

A: After the healing period, we ask the client to come back for touchups. This happens after 4 to 6 weeks of the microblading procedure. During the touchup meeting, we do the refilling where the pigment did not retain properly. Usually, the touchup meeting is to correct any irregularities or mistakes and redefining the eyebrows. If the client have dry skin, they would not have to reschedule another touchup meeting before a year. However, if they have oily skin, the pigment can fade away faster. Therefore, the client is advised to book another touchup meeting after six months. The healing period after the touchup is much shorter and only take about 5 to 7 days.

Q: Once the healing period ends, what can the client do to maintain the eyebrows?

A: After the entire healing process of microblading is done and there are no severe complications, the client will not have to follow any special care. Mostly, the pigment will not fade before a year and the eyebrows will be in their best shape. After a year, they might need to book a color boosting appointment which is just to add more color concentration in the shape and lines of the eyebrows. However, not every client needs to come back for it. Some clients will only have to come back once they have to get their eyebrows microblade again.
